![]() Moving Picture Company, the well-regarded VFX studio responsible for a whole gamut of popular, effects-heavy films, from Watchmen to Harry Potter, has ceased operations at its Vancouver location, laying off its entire team. VFX STUDIO MPC CLOSES ITS VANCOUVER STUDIO, WHICH HAD DONE WORK ON LION KING AND SONIC. ![]() I loved Dunkirk as well so I can only look forward to more original Nolan stuff. STICKMAN: The mad lad should just direct a James Bond film and stop wanking in the side-lines. MADHERO: I thought Dunkirk was a return to form after not like TDKR and Interstellar all that much, but I’ll always be interested in what he has coming up STICKMAN: Nolan can just go to Warner Bros, say “I’m gonna make an expensive movie” and they just be like “Sure man, whatever you want” Sometimes you get Inception, sometimes you get The Dark Knight Rises…both of which I like, but one of which is pretty…flawed. ![]() MADHERO: Its an interesting strategy, and probably someone only like Nolan can pull off thanks to movies like Inception. Interstellar was a bit of a ‘I don’t know what to expect’ but I knew it was about space and shit. STICKMAN: Honestly I’d be happy leaving it at this teaser and like…going in completely blind in Summer. That shit is WAY more interesting than timey wimey shit. LARRY: Okay but it’s like……real-time time travel. Even Inception didn’t have its cards this close to its chest MADHERO: This is like if Inception and Braid had a baby Despite involving timey wimey stuff, we still know very little about this movie what its all about. STICKMAN: I mean, we kinda already knew about the time stuff from the first teaser, but it’s still fun. We don’t actually see a lot of timey wimey action, but the teaser ends on, firstly, a car crashing and then…um…un-crashing? Followed by a bullet riddled crime scene for a crime that has yet to actually happen….or…is going to happen in reverse? I don’t quite know, but Michael Caine’s there, so you KNOW it’s a Nolan movie. We see Washington’s character be ‘killed’ protecting secrets, and soon finding himself recruited into a clandestine organization attempting to stop ‘World War 3’, which seems to be taking an unexpected, unseen, yet deadly form. The first teaser, although quite different in a lot of ways to it, feels the most like 2010’s masterful ‘Inception’ in premise and feel…if not mostly because I don’t know what’s going on yet. The John David Washington led ‘action thriller’ is reportedly a globe-trotting espionage film, where messing with the fabric of time just happens to be in play. We’ve known about TENET for a while now, we’ve even seen a brief, cinema-only teaser released over the Summer (In front of the clearly Nolan-esque…Hobbs & Shaw), but now, we’ve been treated to the first proper look at the film in action…and boy do I still not know what’s going on. With modern classics like Memento, The Dark Knight and Inception under his belt, it’s always an exciting time when Nolan has a new project in the works. He’s had his ups and downs, but we do love a bit of Christopher Nolan.
